Obedience
Would you like an obedient and well trained pet?
Why not try Obedience!
What is Obedience?
Obedience training is basically an education in good manners. And, just as it's more pleasant to be around well-mannered people than stuck with a bunch of ill-trained louts, so a well-behaved dog is more welcome than his overactive, aggressive canine cousin.

Competitions
Competitive Obedience is exactly what you would imagine – obedient and well trained dogs having their abilities tested. Your dog does not have to be a pedigree – all dogs can do Obedience.
If you want to compete then:
- Your dog must be registered with the Kennel Club on the Breed Register or the Activity Register.
- Dogs can only enter Obedience shows when they are at least 6 months of age.
Class eligibility and exercises
There are six levels of Obedience classes at shows and dogs start in the basic Pre-Beginners Class. By gaining a series of first prizes, dogs qualify through to Class C, the highest and most difficult. Exercises range from heelwork (on and off the lead), control exercises such as one minute sit and two minute down stays, to a scent discrimination exercise.
Sounds easy, but has your dog got what it takes?
Click here for more information on class eligibility and the exercises required.
Obedience Awards
The Kennel club awards various titles to dogs who gain a number of places and/or wins in the classes. Click here for more information on Obedience Excellence, Obedience Warrant and the ultimate Obedience Champion awards.
